I was looking for some boating / fishing spots in Scotland a while ago when I came across these related sites, nothing having local knowledge on your side when your a long way from home. From what I'm told there's no "private stretches" of rivers in Scotland, at least not as far as access is concerned, but if you're fishing then you need the right permits in place. As for access to rivers I'm told that we only have access rights to around 3% of the lengths of rivers in England, tidal stretches for the most part and even on them you can get grief from the locals who would prefer it if we didn't exist. I guess you all know that in Scotland we have the legal right to paddle along any/all rivers, and canals {I think}, places like Loch Lomond charge a small fee to bob about on their waters... Rules & Regs ScotlandWith these options in Scotland in mind it might be worth checking out these two "related" blogs from Douglas & Donny Wilcox. Sea Kayak ScotlandDonny doesn't keep his blog up to date, but there's lots of good info in the archives... Don's archived blogBob.
